Fine line tape is your best bet. We have been doing it the way for years.

Do you lightly sand the edge of the tape after it down to rid such of any fuzz? Do you FINAL WASH, LIGHTLY after applying the tape, or just tack it? Do you pull the tape SOON after spraying? Do you pull the tape BACK against itself, or pull at 90 degree angle?

Thanks,

Dale

I pull it back on itself probably 90 to 120 degree angle, and I do it slowly. I always use 3M 1/8" or 1/4" blue fine line. Its $6 a roll. Make sure you wax and grease remove first, then I tack cloth the whole piece I am painting. I only pull after the paint has set up, maybe an hour or so. press the tape edges good and hard, you dont want the paint to build into openings. That is why some guys pinstripe their flames, and other flame jobs dont need a stripe, they are so clean.

Dale, Are we talking Base / Clear or a single stage paint? On base/ 2 tone paint we wait at least 1.5 hours before we re tape. as far as method of tape removal we just wait for the second color to flash and pull the fine line tape straight back against it self . We use a DuPont final kleen to remove any residue from the tape then tack and clear.
