I had a 700R4 trans.installed to replace 350 and after appro.300 miles I begin getting a lot of whinning noise and sounded like gear noise in rear,in pull, coast, float.Well I wanted to change ratio to match trans and ordered a complete center section and have same noise, trans.shop says it is rear end.I don't believe it now since noise did not change at all.Does anyone know how to tell difference.By the way noise is same in all forward gears and neutal. It has been sugested it may be planateer gears in trans??????????Help

rear end noise will always change from load to coast. my guess would be converter. i've had several bad converters over the years. no way to check them before you install.

Jack.....put the chassis on frame stands.......safe ones. Get 2 feet of garden hose. Use it to listen to each moving component while the car is running in gear. You will find the noise.

Fun with rods. Jim
