Sometimes you just can't say no. My father inlaw just delivered his 48 Fraiser to me to finish up his paint job. It is in Nason 2k primer over a gray primer applied to bare steel and bondo. There is body/metal work to be corrected, block sanded and topcoated.

I'll take it to bare steel in the worst areas to smooth things out. However he is thinking in paint by the fourth of July so a complete strip is out of the question.

He has purchased the paint from sherwin williams and was assured it will be fine over the Nason 2k.

I know that this is a textbook case of what not to do when painting a car but sometimes you just have play the hand you're dealt.. ( I repeat this over and over and over) :).

Questions:

Can body fillers be used over the 2k primer, if yes what brand type would be best in this situation.

Should the 2k be used to fill and smooth for block sanding?

Any and all ideas, input, suggestions, opinions and sage wisdom will be appreciated.

Jim

no you cant put filler over 2k. 80 grit it down as far as you can and put 2 good coats of epoxy on it and start over. you can do body work over the epoxy. when done with bodywork recoat with epoxy .throw the nason away or use on a tractor. get some good high build primer from spi and some universal clear.

i feel your pain but i would rather chunck the cheap stuff and buy good products. the job will go faster and be less work. sw buffs like concrete and looks about the same when done .

I wouldnt put SW on a doghouse! -Shine is right -if you do get it to buff, it still looks dull.

I use a high build 2k then hit it with 400 as my last step prior to paint, nothing on top or it will show through. Also throw that Bondo in the shit can, Evercoat Metalworks makes a good product, Duraglass, lightweight fillers, and their finishing puddy doesnt shrink back on you when drying.

Sorry, been spraying bugs and weeds so just getting back to say thanks.

First off if this wasn't my wife's 78 year old father I would have run as fast as I could and never looked back. But ......

No bondo, everecoat products in the cabinet.

Jury is still out on the SW and clear.

I'm going to bare metal for any repairs then epoxy. After starting on the body damage Don is right I do have a rats nest on my hands. But I'm trying to look at this a learning experience...... I really am.
