The finish on my coupe is Black urethane w/ flattening agent. Trouble is "water spots". I CANNOT get this car to look clean! I actually tried some "lemon pledge" spray on an area and it seemed to look better. Anyone ever try some sort of protectent or wax or spray to help with the look???????????

I did the same thing with my roadster. First, the paint went on VERY slow or it would shine. Two quarts of black urethane, two quarts of flatening agent. I found that using a brush to wash the car worked best. Use a soft brissle type used for washing cars. As soon as you are done just "blot" it using a Chamois. Don't rub the surface with anything because the roughness will pull off tiny bits of the rag, chamios or whatever and stick to the car. Wonder about taking a green Scotsbrite and trying to knock down some of the roughfness of the finish.

RE: Wonder about taking a green Scotsbrite . Sounds like a great idea IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO REPAINT!!

I used a green Scotsbrite on our sliding glass patio door and screwed it BIG time. THEY ARE VERY ABRASIVE. Had to install anew door.

Used to use lemon Pledge back in the early 70's when I was on the ISCA show circuit.

Must be gettin OLD, as I totally forgot about that trick.

Worked good then, why not now.

I do know it will breakdown and wash off with soap and water.

Don't let your wives find out how much you like Lemon Pledge or you will be polishing more than your Hot Rods. This is a cool trick.

My car is painted with Dupont Hot Rod Black. Was having the same issues with spots. Took a chance and used some Mequiars Tech Wax on it, which is a polymer based coating. Worked great. Haven't had to use InstantDetailer in a couple weeks. Dust n dirt wipe right off and it keeps a nice sheen. Try a small spot first just to be sure it works for you.

I think those spots may come from "hard water". Try using the water softener used in home systems. Mix your soap wash bucket with only softened water, and rinse using a garden fertilizer hose attachment filled with the softener. I believe it's similar to rock salt, and can be picked up at your local home improvement, or appliance type stores. No more spots!

Calgon is what I use. I figured it out when washing the outside windows and they looked horrible when I was done.

I have used the old Pledge furniture polish for over 15 years on my '39 Chevy Cpe. They quit making about 2 or 3 years ago. My paint look like new for 20 years. I recently repainted it. I haven't tried Lemon Pledge yet. A lot of people thought I had a problem because the use of Pledge for furniture and glass! It was quick though.

Years ago on TNN if anyone remembers TNN there was a show on detailing your car. They showed using Pledge on the flat black hoods . It looked great. See YA! Dave

Well...I started this mess so I'll log in again. I tried a Mr Clean wash / rinse unit I won in Hershey. YUP, it worked !!! NO spots! Anything you put with your soap wont do it. It's the crap in the water when you RINSE is the culprit. I like that suggestion about the RV water filter....that will probably work. The Mr Clean deal is ok but very clumsy to use. OH YEAH, I "pledged" my whole car...looked great for two days then started looking oily?. I think I'm going to try that"tech wax" that jaybird mentioned?

.....................................Don't pledge the whole car........................................................interior is ok to do

31TUDOR, I hope you didn't take that shortcut on your wedding day?

RTNENTERPRISE, How long will that filter last, and is it a simple screw on like a nozzle?

Nah, I did it right Jack!

All of these other options to Lemon Pledge are great ideas, but they don't leave your car with the "lemony fresh smell". I wonder if you can get a Lemon Pledge Little Tree??? LMAO
