A question for the electrical guru's out there. The driver's side power window on my 74 Corvette is stuck in the down position. The window worked fine on Saturday when I went out cruising. I parked the car in the garage with the window in the down position. When I push the switch (up or down) the interior lights will dim slightly and the ammeter drops. This is with the engine shut off. With the engine running the lights don't dime and the ammeter doesn't show any change but the window still doesn't go up. I haven't done anything to try to fix it yet, but am looking for possible directions to go. I do know the switches are individual for each side and don't have a cross over. They're the old style GM rocker switch with 3 pins. The wiring diagram shows shows a relay, in a typical PITA position. Thanks in advance for the help.

Sounds like its just stuck. With the lights dimming like that it would make me think that.

if it were shorted it would blow a fuse. stuck motor will hum and not blow a fuse. there are several things in there that can bind. best bet is take the door panel off and look. you'll have to do it sooner or later. i have a manual out in the shop. i'll try to take a look and see if anything stands out.

George, I agree with bigdude. Mine on the "barge" have never gotten stuck but are extremely slow to raise sometimes. A little lubricaion helps, but you got to get into your door to do it. I even lube the glass edges to reduce drag (good quality wax works). Even though the "barge" is older than your Vette, the power windows have only been there since 1998. Yours have probably never had any maintenance. Get the tools out!

Thanks for the ideas so far. Didn't hear any sound coming from the PW motor. I'll be pulling the door panel off tonight. Hopefully it will be something simple.

Looks as if the motor bought the farm.

Pulled the door panel and console apart last night. All wiring OK, have juice at the motor. Was going to try smacking it a few times to try to get it 'unstuck' but it was too late at night for any pounding. I'll be trying that tonight. If not, off to find a new motor. Thanks for the help.

Tried some gentle persuasion on the motor to see if it would 'unstick' and no help. Also tried to move the window track up gently but ti wouldn't budge. Looks like time for a new motor. Also looks like it's a bear to get at. Anyone out there replaced a power window motor in a C3 vette? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks
