We may have found the problem with the 502 RamJet that would not idle and ran rough. The system would start right up, but then slow down and in about 20 seconds stall. We started wih all the obvious things, timing, fuel pressure, wiring errors. The breakthrough came when we found a owner on the Salline Chev. website that listed his running parameters on a properly running engine. He listed 11 HG as his vacuum, ours was 19!! How the heck is it that we had so much more vacuum? The answer is, the lifters were so loose the push rods were almost falling out of the rockers. This gave the effect of a VERY mild cam. The noise was masked by the open headers because we do not yet have an exhaust system yet. The MAP sensor was going below its operating range telling the ECU to send less fuel until it would finally stall. We adjusted the lifters (hydraulic roller cam) and it idles. We have also purchased a diagnostic program that runs on a laptop ,but have not used it yet. We may not have needed it if we had checked the lifters first, but it will be interesting to see how the parameters change and hopefully make this thing run really good. Thanks to everyone who responded. I hope this input will help someone else.

That would be a good question blksheep. Fortunately ,long before we were aware of this problem we chose to use a hydro-boost system from ABS. It uses an electric pump to produce up to 2500lbs of boost to the master cylinder. I would like to say I saw this coming, but the truth is I just got lucky. As my friend used to say, "even a blind dog finds a bone once in awhile". Thanks for the response.
