I am getting ready to replace the welting on my fenders and I was wondering if there is a corrrect or easy way to do it ? I replaced one side last year and there are some areas where the welting does not sit flush with the panels. Is it better to start at one end and work to the other or is it best to start in the high point in the middle and work outward from there?

Thanks !

At best, it is a meticulous job. I don't think it really matters whether you start at the end or in the middle. My welting had notches cut out at the bolt locations. What I ended up doing was install all of the bolts leaving a gap between the fender and the body for the welting. I then test fit the welting. Because of the contour of the body and fender, I ended up having to increase the sizes of some of the notches (sideways and/or depth) to make it fit flush. Once I got the welting to lay in that manner, I started from the middle going outward and started tightening the bolts a little at a time. I did not totally tigthen the bolts all of the way until it had all of them snug and had the welting positioned where I wanted it. I hope this helps. Maybe someone else has a better game plan. Don't attempt to do this in a hurry or you will be ordering some more welting.

when doing a car recently, one of my friends came up with the idea to use 2 sided foam tape. We put the welting on the body and then put the fenders on. It was the easiest welting i have ever done.
