good morning all, I hope everyone is getting the cobwebs off there cars & getting ready to cruise. here on the west coast of BC it is a nice sunny day & i'm about to get the coupe out & run to the parts store. need some info before I go though. I have a sbc with aluminium heads & have not changed the plugs since I got the car as it has been running so well. I have been lead to belive that they should have used never seize when the plugs were installed. Since I don't know should I take the plugs out when the motor is hot or cold?

Doug

Hmmmm didn't you use anti-seize when you installed them? I have iron heads but I have taken plugs out of aluminum heads and cannot remember having a problem, however most were removed when the engine was warm.

You should remove the plugs with the engine cold. Less chance of pulling the threads.

I agree with storm, pull when cold. I always nudge them clockwise to tighten them before I spin them out. For some reason it has kept me from pulling threads, even on heads where they were known to pull easily. It's also good practice to shoot some carb or brakekleen in around the plugs before so as to wash away any dirt and grime before you pull them, to keep them from binding. Also helps on the return trip with the new plugs so you don't get any contaminents on the plug and in the threads or cylinders.-Brant
