I need some opinions, guys. I recently purchased a60 pontiac full custom low-rider, it is pretty much period perfect. However, the engine compartment is pretty cluttered looking, and in need of a good detailing. The engine its self only needs painted, and I`m satisfied with that aspect of it. My question is should I update the brake booster, wiring, and plumbing? (resto-mod it ?) or will this detract from the overall concept ? This area just does`t hold the standard of the rest of the car. Thanx for your input.

How often will you drive it around with the hood open? Unless it bothers you, I wouldn't change it.

Well stay out of the mud mudman, just kiddin. just look at some other boats to get the idea. Its not that hard to make one look decent under the hood.u can do it pretty cheap if you don;t want to go the full billet route.clean it paint it valve covers air cleaner chrome pieces for a few little items plug wires an holders an above all get all those wires an hoses tucked away an clean .so get at it send some pixs when u finish.

Seems all too many Kustoms never get any attention under the hood. So if the rest of the car is period perfect, the mess under the hood probably is too. If you're like me though you want it all to look the best you can. Start by cleaning it up and see what you think you can get away with, know what I mean? Like if the master cylinder works great but it's ugly, clean it up, mask everything off and shoot just that. Take it a piece at a time and you'll probably be pretty happy with the end result.

And remember, ITS YOUR CAR so you get to do what you want with it. Our opinions are only that, opinions. Just because one of us thinks something would look neat YOU are the one who owns it and gets to drive it. Take the opinions and do what it is that YOU want to do. Just have fun!

If you just purchased it and looking for something to do to it , go for it. You can do a lot under the hood so that you will want to lift the hood and show people. I would pull the engine put it on a stand and trick it out. Clean and paint the fenderwells and the firewall. Do it your way and be proud of it. Just my opinion

oh hell no, you have to clean up under the hood. the period look of that car calls for some bling under the hood. not a lot but a little detailing. nice ride

Oh Denny that is sooo bitchin'!!!! Shine is right as usual, clean up that engine bay so it's the same caliber as the rest of the car. I'm still torn between doing something like this on my '60 Chevy or going more of a streetable pro-touring.

By the way... with the other cars you're showing you know EXACTLY what to do with that engine bay. Every one of those rides are gorgeous, classy and enviable! You've got the eye for it all, so you'll have no trouble making the right decisions under the hood of that Poncho!

Hey Shine thanx for your input on the period look. It is most likely what I want to do, I`m just put off by all those unsightly hoses and wires. Guess I got spoiled by the super clean look.

31tudor,thanx for your kind commentson the bow tie collection. the 58 and 71 pickup were bought turn-key. The elkie is my design,re-done last winter after I backed out of a deal for another 60 pontiac. glad i waited and found this one. I keep telling the MRS. that i`ll sell one soon. It`s worked three times ,so far.

Denny, great looking ride, I would try and stick with the 60's show car theme and not the new billet hide everything look. Maybe some polished stainless tubing for the wiring and hoses.Color match the fire wall and fenderwells. That car deserves the attention.

I would at least update to a double master cylinder. Clean up the rest. Looks good.

That is a cooool ride! The engine isn't that bad. A little cleaning, paint, a few dress up items, and I agree to update to the double master cylinder ( may as well get a chrome one if you do it) and it'll look great. I love those old valve covers. I would make them look like new. It's a great car regardless what you do, and it's your money. Don't let us spend it for you. Enjoy the ride!!

I love the finned valvecovers, period perfect. How about 3 duces with german caps or scoops painted the same color as the scallops. Maybe change the engine color to match.

leon and kyhotrod, thanx for the pics . every idea is helpful. kyhotrod, was at that show and don`t remember seeing this car. i do however remember the other 5,999 perfectly.

72 cheyenne, don`t worry those valve covers aren`t going anywhere. i`m thinking of taking the orange out and painting them the C

ashmere beige, with the ribs left exposed aluminium, as they are now.

thanx to brian and ezrodder, also. i think that master cylinder upgrade is a great idea. now i just have to rustle up some cash.
