TRYING TO ALIGN THE FRONT FENDERS,GRILLE,HOOD ON MY 41 FORD PICKUP. AM HAVING A HARD TIME AND MAYBE I'M WRONG BUT ONE FENDER SEEMS SHORTER THAN THE OTHER. CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT THE DIFFERENCE IS BETWEEN A 40 PASSENGER CAR FRONT FENDER AND A 40-41 FORD PICKUP FRONT FENDER ? I KNOW FROM THE CATALOGS THEY ARE VERY SIMILAR BUT DIFFERENT PART NUMBERS.

THANKS

the only difference is the area where it mounts to the cowl ,a passenger car fender has 3 mounting holes,a pickup does not ,they should enterchange, but remember that ford bought from differment suppliers.

I have always thought that a 39' Deluxe and a 40' standard used the same sheetmetal. 40' Deluxe has a different hood and grill, wipers, vent windows, light trims etc, and 41' trucks can use same sheet metal- but it depends on the size of the truck and model. Most 41' cars are completely different.

Set all the front sheetmetal loose then start tightning from back to front& side to side. 37 thru 41's are probably the worst and most time consuming to line up. Good luck

leave the inner fender wells lose. you will have to bow the fender to make it fit the hood. align the hood to the body ( cowl does'nt move) then align the fenders/grille to the hood.

Another hint is that the right fender is a color match to the rest of the truck. The left fender is a slightly lighter shade. The left fender also was never cleaned and undercoated underneath as the right side was. We did try the loosen everything-gradually tighten and shift approach. The grille is pulled back about 1/2" on the left side and the running board has a 3/4" gap between it and the front fender (which I can pull together with the bolts but it's a grunt). It really seems the left fender has 1-2" less overall length than the right. I'm thinking as long as the two sides match the grille wouldn't be twisted i.e. 2 long 2 short but I think I have one of each.

I have two "41 ford pick ups. One is a builder, and the other is driver. They are almost impossible to line up, time consuming.. My buddy has a '40 Ford Cpe. and he is having hard time getting it allign. He came to my place one evening last summer with hood off, then I noticed he had a broken rad. brace, he temp. fixed it, and took off to home!! I also have a '47 Ford pick up, it lined up a little better.. 40 and 41 Ford trucks are both alike, except "41 has a wide hood molding. There is a copany in Fla. that builds and sells 40 and 41 Ford trucks, Right now can't think of guys name.. Thanks, Old Timer
