As many of you know, I recently sold (whew) my big dollar '57 Chevrolet. I invested a bunch of dough in building that car and believe me, it had the best of everything. The problem arose when I finished the car. I didn't want to drive it. Too pretty, too expensive and too dam fragile to have fun with. I was constantly worried about where it was parked, who was around it and terrified of piegons. Five hours on the road equalled three hours of clean up.

I just finished my '72 Chevelle Party Wagon. A third of the $$, better road manors, almost as shiny, you can beat on her and take her any where. I am having fun with this car. The way it was intended. Moral of the story??????????? Next time you find yourself dreaming about that $100K fantasy ride, picture yourself trying to sleep when it's parked overnite, all alone, in some strange town at a national event. Sometimes,....less is more.

blksheep...sleepin pretty good these dazes...in Charlotte

You hit the nail on the head with that Blksheep. I love the wagon!!! I have been considering selling the two cars and getting just one we can all ride in. It is just hard giving up "My" car. So many folks already think I know nothing about cars and without my car to show my achievement (no matter how little it is) I feel I will lose what makes me , well....me! Beautiful street rods are great, but if they are so perfect you cannot drive them why have em?

insurance if i build it i'm gonna drive it. depends on if you plan to sell. if not then drive it. we can go overboard on bling but we always did. 25k in one in 75 was just as bad. i'd rather have dirty chrome than black paint

chrome wont get you home..........but you'll look cool setting there.

Totally agree---No more HI-BUCKS cars for me- Built the Kool 35 2 years ago for a driver, same deal---to pretty for me, so sold it @ Barrett- Then Built the Nu-Ol Skool 32 3 window as a driver, just too g#d damn fast with that LS motor, probably would have killed myself in it, so off to Barrett again. Now I'm back to the basic's with the Nu Orange coupe. Gonna drive the P#ss out of this one, and not worry about it.

What is this crazy idea about 32' 3 window, LS motor too fast ? You can never have enough H.P., just dont push the pedal down so far !

Why have over 500 H.P. in a 1888 lb car if ya ain't gonna use it. If ya have ever driven a sprint car you'd know what I mean !! That 32 was just like a sprint car, hit the loud pedal and off ya went. Ask Eric (31 Tudor), he rode in that puppy, and I never really got on it.

I'm jealous. ...........

I think just plain cruisin is more fun than having to steer with my right foot. That's why I don't build crazy stuff like that anymore. I do like watching other people drive them though.....

Dave! I didn't know you joined the long roof club! Wagons are so cool! Wish I had room to keep my '62 Buick. I need to list it for sale here soon!

Don's right! That car was a SCREAMER at 1/2 throttle! Broke those HUGE tires loose through 1st gear, started spinning them in 2nd and Don backed out of it because we were closing in on 100 MPH really fast! Two more gears left too! That car was SCARY fast and the motor was fresh, not broken in yet.

I too used to think that there was no such thing as too much horsepower. Now I beleive more in an efficient setup with a good gear selection (like 3.90's) and overdrive. Choosing the right gears and trans makes 300 HP fun and VERY streetable. With this setup 400 HP wouldn't be quite so streetable.

You guys have it right, fun with the car is number 1. I've always been a budget builder and always enjooyed driving the wheels off what ever i've got. That is one sweet looking Chevelle wagon, always been a long roof fan. Just found a '65 Pontiac Safari wagon for my son-in-law. 6 cyl powerglide. I know he won't be able to drive too fast with my grandkids...hehehe
