new oil does not allow enough friction to rotate the lifters on new engines. main reason for all the cam failures. comp recomends delo or rotela for break in. after break in i run syn in everything.

Very interesting, especially since at least 2 of the popular rod mags did recent articles on oil and came to a different conclusion. They essentially said that most oil is good and there is little difference among the brands, and also additives do little or nothing; everything we need is already in the oil.

reg 10w30 is not good for a new motor on break in. i've seen cam failures on new motors and researched as to why. main reason seems to be not enough friction to rotate the lifters. that will kill a cam in 500 miles or less. most all cam mfg recommend an additive for break in or oil such as delo or rotella. i dont pay attention to rod magazines anymore. i'd rather put my trust in the ones who make the parts.

IF YOU GO TO "WHAT'S NEW" ON THE COMP CAMS WEBSITE, THERE IS GOOD INFORMATION IN TECH BULLETIN #225 CONCERNING THE NEW OILS AND FLAT TAPPET CAMS. I THINK I'M GOING TO GO WITH ROTELLA AND COMP CAMS OIL ADDITIVE PART #159 UNTIL I BITE THE BULLET FOR ROLLER LIFTERS.
