I thought the VIN was on the frame topside on the drivers side. Can't seem to find it. Could I stamp the title# there and then make a etching to use for the Dept of Transportation? Any suggestions??

it is there and very faint. does not take much sanding and painting to get rid if it. sandblasting will do it too. it;s stamped a second time on the rise to the rear end drivers side.

Thanks Shine- I knew it was in two places. Hopefully it will get warm enough to venture out to the garage and heat it up soon! These minus 30 windchills take the fun out of being in the garage!!I'll try and look again in afew days.

your welcome. you would not believe how many times the #'s are sandblasted off. i tape over them with aluminum tape and the dust some clear buzz bomb over them after the frame is painted.

Can't tell by the picture but, if your motor mount goes over the frame it might be over your vin. When I put a MM 2 or any other frame mods on these year Fords, I cut the vin out and butt weld it back in the frame just in front of the crossmember. Good luck.

The VIN on my 40 Standard Coupe's frame was up front next to the front crossmember. Ran right along the 3 rivets on the driver's side.

check with the dmv. here in texas if you so much as go across it with a grinder it is a violation. everytime we do a frame mod we are breaking the law. they could get really picky here and impound half the streetrods on the road.

Shine- Pennsylvania can be a real pain in the *** about this. Hopefully I can restamp title # and put that on the body # plate on firewall. A buddy of mine who does inspections is going to help me get it inspected and we are now trying to determine what the good ol boys at PENNDOT (Pa dept of Transportation ) will accept.

Jim- I'll bein touch about the repo body plate- Thanks!

OK, horror story. I sandblasted it off on the 35. Went to motor vehicle dept and had an inspector come by and look at what I had. Showed her all the paperwork that showed I actually owned that hunk of steel. She wrote a letter and had it noterized that she had inspected it and it was the real thing...etc. I sent everything to the state MVP and they took the letter she wrote and thru it away and told me I needed a noterized letter from a state inspector. They also entered the VIN into the computer network as having a problem. Talked to a state policeman and he said "Stop trying to be so honest!" I restamped it but the national computer system by this time had a red flag on the number. Caused problems selling. I say again what I said earlier ... restamp it.

Thanks Willys33- that is probably what I will be doing. A retired state cop who lives nearby stopped over this morning(he used to oversee the inspection work )and he just advised me the same - in fact said he would bring over his stamps for me to use since mine are currently being used by a friend who took them out of town with him for a job he is doing.

Shawn......Ever do NSRA Nats East in York, Penna ? This will be my 34th year. Neat to walk over to a open hood or door....see my body number plate...license plate is from Penna...or NJ..or NY..or California, or Florida...you get the idea. Since I am right here in Maryland plus Penna is a major Street Rodding State....bingo = more of my plates in Penna than any other State.

$5 will put it in your mailbox.
