I have a BBC 502 that is going into a 1957 Olds. Because this car originally had a J2 engine I thought it would be neat to install a modern "three two" setup to keep the theme. I have read some negative info on some of the racing type 4 bbl carbs on this website, but I wonder if anyone could tell me about the "Six Shooter". The car is to be used as a cruiser, not racing. It will also have a beefed up 700 R4 transmission.

Thanks for any input.

I am not sure what you mean by "use the real thing". Do you mean use an original J2 carb setup on a 371 engine? If so, that is what I am pulling out of the car. The old rodchesters tend to stick and leak fuel which resulted in an engine fire. Also, the old Jetaway trans is not very good.

But maybe you had something else in mind, can you elaborate a bit?

Thanks

I think he says to use carbs that arent BG. I know there for awhile he was shipping them out with crud in them supposedly. I wont use them myself until his prostocker starts winning(just kidding)

You might be able to rebuild the rochesters for use , but may have problems locating a new 3 deuce intake for a 502, regardless of carb used.. Not many new 3x2 intakes for BBC's. I'd rather have a Holley or Ebrock 2x4 setup before I'd use BG system. Never have heard good things about BG carbs.

BTW, I have a 57 Olds J2, with the rochesters. Great engine, carbs will leak but can be rebuilt to stop that nonsense. Also still have the Jetaway trans (also rebuilt about 10 years ago. One day I may replace the engine with a big block, but will likely use one on the Mooneyes, 3 deuce FI systems. That way I will get the modern FI with the old time look.

Hey Dixie, will be there Friday afternoon. Keep the heat on, tired of this damn snow and ice. Suppose to get 4 more inches tomorrow (Wednesday). Looking forward to seeing your deuce!

Rochester 2G's are an easy carb to rebuild, and very easy to get parts since it was so popular. Paper gaskets can cause problems when building them. I perfer STROMBERGS myself, no Holley 94's, only Stromberg.

Thank you to everyone that responded to my question. I had hoped to hear from someone that had some actual experience with the "Six Shooter" since on the surface it looks like exactly what I would like to run. It is sort of scary that none of the responses had anything good to say about Barry Grant carburators. If they are that bad how do they stay in business?

If I decide to be brave (foolish?) and go ahead with it I will let you know how it works out.

Thanks again for your input.

it's called marketing they stay in bez because who wants to say they paid that much for a pos carb. some may work fine. some can be fixed. some hit the corner in a cussing fit. first off i will not pay that much for a carb so close to the holley. i can fix and tune a holley to do what i want. holley still sells the six pack carbs. manifold will be the finder. let us know how it turns out and good luck with it.

all this negative crap about b/g carbs is unreal. there can't be that many people bad mouthing them and still be in business in my opinion. used a b/g zz4 carb on my zz4 motor after running a holley for a while, and WOW what a difference. like a new thrill all over again. other people i know running b/g carbs, and no problems just praises. worst problem i had was a fuel bowl bolt came lose. i say if you like and are paying for it, buy it.
