I am building 3 Streetrod engines right now. First 1 done. Big H.P. 406

Just when you think Murphys law didnt show his ugly face-

Problem 1-This weekend when installing Camshaft- sprocket holes not correctly tapped from factory and 1 hole is just barely drilled. Never seen that before!

Problem 2- getting ready to paint the motor, everything is mixed, PPG single stage, gun is ready, loaded, lightly pull the trigger- adjusting air flow , even did test pattern on some cardboard, spray at engine and all of a sudden the pivot on the trigger brakes in half and air pressure sticks at full blast with about $200 worth of paint dripping off the motor within 2 seconds, I had to pull the air line off to get the damn thing to quit.

I solved all these problems with about 10 Budlights and alot of cursing!

Final product turned out good though, after alot of extra work !

I'll bet you check the new cam before leaving the store. Quite similar to my escapade last fall. The wife's battery went dead. Removed it a ran over to the local O'Reillys for a new one (good thing its only a 1/4 mile away). Got the new battery and ran home to get it in. All in, hold down bolted in snug, cable tightened and nothing. Not even the underhood light would work. Out came the volt meter. DEAD BATTERY and it was supposed to be new. I returned it to the store and made them check it (it was dead) and check the next new one before I left.

Hope things go better, doesn't seem that they could get worse.

nicely detailed motor, all that liquid stress reliever must have worked fine. Whose cam was it? and were they good for it?

I always use Comp Cams for everything, I have bought probably 10 - 15 cams from them plus all the extra valve train goodies. I am going to call them tomorrow and send them pictures and we will see what happens. I'm not really mad, it was just frustrating at the time.

And yes, the liquid stress reliever helped out alot!

Engine looks real nice. I noticed the valve covers appear to not have breathers. Are you using the PCV valve in the intake?

Thanks, the PCV is in the back of the other valve cover, this photo does not show it.

I always put a vent somewhere in 1 of the valve covers. 2 perferably.

I have friends that say you have to have a PCV valve for the engine to run good, but I have never had a engine run bad without one, even just using a breather, but I do agree it is a good idea. The heads and valley are all connected by oil returns, so to me at least 1 is good 2 is better.

SHINE- I'll tell you that spray gun going haywire is what really pissed me off, I still do not know how the air pressure could stick wide open when the trigger broke?

air needle plunger hung. it's the little pin sticking out for the trigger to depress.

i run no hole v/covers. i put the pcv in the intake behind the carb and run a moon breather on the front of the drivers v/cover. stops oil leaks since there is no crankcase pressure to blow it out.

Not to hijack a thread but doing it your way is probably a little more labor intensive but would keep oil from drafting out at hi speed. I fired up the monster the other day for the lildude and stunted his growth a little more!
