Get off the trailer and drive

I have noticed that every time I build and get a rear end out of the junkyard I end up with a suprising cost. If I get out of it under $500 I think I'm lucky. Building something like the Willys that requires a narrow rear end the price goes to $1000 quickly. Would be better off buying a NEW housing and NEW third member etc. Anyone else notice this?

Oh guys, I can tell you a story but lets just say the 9" Ford my husband built for his car (and I mean he built it and assembled it himself) cost us about $1200.00 - 8 or 9 years ago! It is a nodular, 9" Ford, narrowed, with a Detroit locker and 456 gears with custom axles. The housing was the cheapest part!

Try Currie Enterprises in Anaheim Calif. Can't go wrong with Franks stuff, fair pricing also.

LEON, That is 1 hell of a rearend and a nice truck to say the least. I am assuming their is a few horsepower hiding under that hood ! You will never break those axles.

Everyone wants a 9 inch ford for some reason. Well if you have 500 hp maybe. It is hard to find one narrow enough to use in a street rod . I stick with the 8 inch Maverick or Garnada it handles 350 hp and you can still find them usually less than $150.Common gear ratio is 2:89 and 3:0 which is not great for overdrive trans . They can easily be adapted to disc brake for under $200

another good option is the 8.8 Ford, I think this will replace 8" thats getting harder to find as time goes, The 8.8 can be had wtih discs and theres lots of these around cheap, I paid 350$ for mine w/limited slip.
