I would like to do one If I had a customer that would afford me the time and creativity that it takes to be a serious contender from the start. Building a car like that has to be done with a solid plan.
We,ve built a few ISCA show winners and class champions but If I started a car to compete for the Ridler It would be it would be with full intention on winning it...... In serious competition, second place isn't an option
As a lot of you guys may know Im a big fan of really high quality cars and Im not into ratrods,

Who knows, one day I might get the chance

My son-in-law made a run at the Ridler with the '39 Ford Convertible "Orange Crush" in 2005. It was a great experience and quite an adventure and we learned a lot about 'what not to do' the next time. We learned a lot and had a great time doing the show circuit in the mid west but probably won't try it again. It's a huge committment of time and resources, especially if you're from the West coast. The Orange Crush was not quite finished and some of the small details of completion kept us out the Great 8 (we came in 11th). Cars at this level are so perfect that the judges simply look for small imperfections to determine winners. If we had more experience with this type of competition, we surely would have done better. The car had the style, inovation, and quality to be a winner. I was a great experience though. Brent has just picked up a '37 Cabriolet and although he says it's just going to be a driveable show car, I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't consider it!

That was a very nice car, I liked everything about it, I can't wait to see the 37

Thats what I like about serious shows and the people that go for them, when you get beat out, you know why and and you learn from it. It not about blaming the judges

Rod Runs are for fun, Serious Shows are there to highlight the best

Saw the "Orange Crush" at the GNRS and was really impressed. Beautiful car. Where is it now?

Hi Don, yes Leonard (Dominator Street Rods) is going to do the '37. If he goes with Brockmeyer's design, it should be a beautiful car. I had a job change so I haven't earned any time off so I'll probably stay pretty close to home this spring. If possible, I'd like to do Del Mar though. I'd like to sell the '37 Coupe this spring so I'll do as many as I can to expose the car. What good shows are in Az?

The Orange Crush was sold at BJ a year ago. A collector (the big guy that bought lots of high end cars) is building a museum in Winnemucca, Nv. and it'll be on display there along with some of the most unique and famous cars in the world. We thought it was kinda cool. We can't wait to go to the opening day of the museum!

I remember, I waited and watched for it to go through and missed it because of a commercial, I know that 39 ranks in my top ten

This is beyond my means and talents but I sure like to look at them. Of course if I had the $$ to hire the best to do what I can't that would be different. I think I have some great concepts floating around in what's left of my mind.

I have a tool shop in bradley, il. One of my customers is troy Trepanier (RAD RIDES BY TROY). I was in his place today. They were putting the body on the 36 Ford Coupe that they are trying for the ridler award. Ther were no less than 10 guys working on this project at the same time. The gentleman by the name of Charlie ( From American Hot Rod ) was the painter. The innovations on this car is mind blowing. It's easy to be that creative when you have a customer with VERY DEEP POCKETS.
