Still driving the wife's car, cause I am slow.

Bad news guys, I was at a meeting this morning and it was brought up that Daimler is entertaining an offer from Hyundai to purchase Chrysler, north America. Guess that will make it easier to be a Chevy guy!

There's also talk of GM buying Chrysler and stripping off Jeep and selling the rest. I think it is a sad commentary on the state of the USA today when there is even talk of a US manufacturer going to the Koreans.

just lets ya know where the money is. As long as they can keep the factories open

i guess it doesn't matter where the cash is found. Lets hope if it goes through, they bring bags of into the company. With 6,000 people laid off this week at Chrysler, they must need something.

Dixie, Hyundai is a Korean auto company, not Japanese, so there is no chance for a Hemi Hyundai in NASCAR. Second, when Hyundai first came here back in the mid 80's were pretty much garbage. It has taken them 20 years and a lot of part swapping with several Japanese car manufacturers to get it right. Now they really are a pretty good car. More reliable than any of the German cars and most of the American built cars, plus they have a very good warranty program.

I got die-hard Ford and Chevy guys in my neighborhood who are giving up their trucks and buying the new Tundra's, must be something to Toyota's desire to be number 1 in the world. Last week I read where Ford had slipped to number 4 behind both Toyota and Chrysler. Daimler has not done a helluva lot for Chrysler since they took over, I can't imagine Hyundai doing a helluva lot worse.

As long the American auto workers can keep the majority of their jobs, it might not be bad thing. But this country's and that industry's economy doesn't need massive layoffs due to a takeover from any source.

I own all American vehicles too...BUT there is a sliver lining in every cloud. If it wasn't for the foreign market that corrected the runaway Detroit problems we (the end comsumer) would be in a hell of a mess. The stuff coming out of Detroit in the 60s and 70s were throw aways. They needed to be reigned in. The imports saw to it that a present day Detroit pickup doesn't weigh in at 10,000 pounds, get 2 MPG, have a 30 day warrantee and cost $65K. Detroit shot themselves in the foot and were VERY slow to recover but today most of their products are above the average. It will take a long time to recover from the image they gave themselves. Dixie,

you still need to do some research on Hyundi.

Don't get me started on this American versus the world car manufacturer thing. I would rather have Ameridan iron over most anything (with the possible exception of Ferrari), but other car mfgrs provide a level of quality and diversity that is not readily available in most of the American brands. Just because GM, Ford and Chysler are located in this country doesn't mean there plants are, or their profits. There all building in either Mexico, Canada, or some other non US place. Chrysler is sending a lot of it's money to Germany. Damiler may be sharing technology with Chysler but they are getting paid handsomely for it.

When you buy your American cars with American money, remember that when you buy replacement parts from the American dealers of those American cars that the parts are just as likely coming from CHINA. Very little stays here anymore. American autoworkers may be benefiting, but they would benefit more if it all stayed here.
