I am building '26 ford touring, using what was available, early 302. I went and got remote unit for mine, I had very little room, as a matter of fact, my buddy said I couldn't do it. There is a short and long version, but circumference are same. If this doesn't help, let me know, will check into a little more; Oldtimer
Dick......Purolator #L34631 for SB/BB Chev trucks, is 5" tall. Purlolator #L20049 for SB Chev passenger cars is 3 1/2" tall. $2.44 at Advance Auto. Jim
Dick, I recently sold my Napa Auto Parts store that I started 25+ years ago. I'm pretty sure than Napa listed a replacement filter for a OMC (marine) application using a sm blk Chevy. It was considerably shorter than the #1069 "short" filter that has been used for years. If you have not solved your problem , Email me an I'll be happy to go thru their books and come up with that filter number. I'm still in the store often (I'm the landlord) and is a half mile from my house. Let me know.
FUNNY STORY......When I was much younger I had a Camaro with a filter clearance / header problem. I actually put a filter in my vise and with a pipe for leverage I SQUISHED (is that a word?)the filter to make it fit!!!!!..........Young & Dumb
At least you didn't let the car leak till it stopped. Mine used to blow the seal in the filter adapter and drip on the header. Very embarassing when I pulled to a light in my mean chevelle. Only to be over taken by the cloud I was out running.
It eventually stopped on its own......
So did the engine...

If you have any questions about the quality of oil filters, do what I did-- Buy a new filter of every brand I could find and cut them open. I spent a few dollars on the filters, but a lot less money than the price of repairing an oil starved motor. Anyway, piece of mind is worth a few dollars. BTW, I use Wix filters. Tim.
