 Enjoy the Ride

This 36 had some collision damage, had very little rust and most of the parts are here. I started the project in 2003, doing most of the work on weekends.the running gear is 500 CI Cad, Turbo 400 and 8.8 ford. Suspension upgrades are Mustang II type IFS and triangulated 4bar Rear.

There are little to no parts available for the body, so all damaged panels are restored and new running boards fabricated.

After I had the body in epoxy, repairs were started, the tail pan and Lip above it needed work. This required new metal for the Lip.

The next step I took was to remove all the old lead from the body seams. Back in the day when this car was built, they did not take the time to fully clean the acid off from the process and over time, this can cause problems with rott and paint damage.

I found a picture of the rusted out lip above the tail pan, as you can see, it was badly rusted away. the new lip is made and ready to install. Here I also have the Rolling chassis completed, The frame was sandblasted, coated with RUST BULLET and then painted.

Restoration can have many issues to resolve, One major Issue with the LaSalle is the right front fender, I ended up with [5] major patch panels on it alone. The fire wall got a typical make over and then painted before setting the body on the chassis. Fenders are just about fitted up so I can start the metal finish work.

some important details that dont get much notice, like battery boxs, insulation, and more fender patches.
I made a simple box for the battery that will fit in the original location under the floor. Lizard skin is easy to apply and goes on smooth, of all the options out there for insulation I like this one the best. both rear fenders had some rust, so the bottoms were replaced on both sides.

Walt, I have a friend with a Pullmax machine, we stamped the bead into the sheetmetal and then used a shrinker /strecher to bend it into the shape of the body. Right now were working on the inner fender panels, these will have curved louvers stamped into them to exhaust the under the hood heat, I will post some pics when Im done. Where are you with your build process? would like to see what you got going.

BigAl, This year once again, I had to suck it up and miss our local cruise and show. Next year in the summer of 08 I hope to roll out of the garage in Primer, in time for our local cruise and show. then, after the cruise take it home and blow it apart for paint and interior. Then I can take some serious road trips and let the good times roll. For now Im still working the sheetmetal. Here are some pics of the lead work thats in progress right now.

The LaSalle is comming along well, My Son is helping with the block sanding, he has one rear fender done after 20 hours, the fronts will triple that easy in prep time for paint. Im working the loose ends, seems there are a lot of them, like my list grows rather than shrinks.

I also decided to lower the headlamps 2 inches, this will really mess with the Cadillac/LaSalle guys, but I think this will be an improved look for this car and besides I dont plan on parking on the lawn at Pebble Beach anyways. I will post some pictures when I get the head lamps done.

Thought I would share some other pictures . The original seat is modified and coverd in leather.I used the old tips off my Vette for the exhaust system and had it ceramic coated. 12 circuit fuse panel,Not a store bought harness.wiring was one of the most fun parts of this project.there is also a relay panel behind the dash,so no load goes thru any of the switches that are all original ones. my solution to the brake lamp switch is a Jacobs Brake Switch,This should not have the corrosion issue as many external mounted units have. The Dash is copmpleted. The fuse panel is mounted to the side of the alum glove box I fabricated and lined the inside with felt.
