Our first ever attempt at a car event was off to a roaring start. Flyers were passed out, shirts were made and everyone seemed to be on board. However in the fall it became apparent that this show was not going in the direction it was originally intended. StreetRodding.com members didn't want a beauty pagent and voiced a desire to see the area and spend time talking face to face. We were also up against several larger shows in the area and much larger fuel prices so we went back to the drawing board and the forums for some suggestions.
As expected our members came up with some great ideas and as a result the Hot Time in the Heartland "Cruise" is scheduled for July 4th and 5th in sunny Springfield, Illinois.
The new event will meet all our needs and at a much lower cost. Our hotel rooms are now at the beautiful Hilton Hotel in downtown Springfield, with parking for one vehicle in their covered ramp included with each room reserved. The fun begins on Friday with a breakfast and cruise to the Hilton for check-in and orientation. All the Lincoln sites will be open on Friday and only minutes from your hotel and a Route 66 tour is being organized with stops at the local Route 66 hot spots. Dinner options will be unlimited with Springfield having more restaurants than most cities its size. (All information and maps will be handed out with your goodie bag received at check-in. When the sun begins to fade we will meet at the top of the Hilton parking ramp, get out our lawn chairs and watch the city's fireworks display. For those wanting to catch up on their sleep your comfortable room will be waiting, for others a walk downtown will offer many night spots for music and liquid refreshments.
Saturday, July 5th we will meet at Ryans Buffet in the city's North East quadrant for a delicious breakfast buffet and then proceed to Lincoln Illinois (28 miles north of Springfield) to join the Railsplitter Antique Auto Club for their Heritage Days Cruise In. This event is located in downtown Lincoln and runs from 11:00 AM to 3 PM around their historic square. Flea markets, antiques, classic cars and street rods as well as the wonderful people of Lincoln will welcome you to their city. At 3:00 we will meet at the StreetRodding.com Tent and make our plans to caravan back toward Springfield to our next stop. We will be headed to Ray's Route 66 Diner where there will be a 50's Night with Classic Car Display from 4:00-7:00. This is located in Sherman, IL (a small community just outside of the Springfield city limits) There is no fee for this event and it will be open to all Antique, Classic, StreetRod, Hot Rod and Custom Cars and Trucks. (Door prizes will be offered) Currently we are working on an additional stop after 7:00. Please check this site for new postings.
