Importing a hot rod from Netherlands
Hey all, I'm looking to import from the Netherlands to the USA for either a street rod or a hot rod, still undecided. Has anyone tried doing the same, and could they tell me how it went and with what company? Thanks!!

  • Went as far as to contact a shipping company and they basically told me the same thing: not a good idea!
Oh well, thanks everyone. Didn't know how rigorous it was to import to the USA.

And if anyone else wants to know how hard it would be...
    Good luck!

  • If you can't kiss the hood, don't buy it.
Example: If you are in Florida, see a neat '32 Ford coupe in California for $50K, spend $400 to fly there and "kiss the hood" or leave it there.
$400 is beer bucks compared to the $50K price.

    1. Ditto with 32 Dodge and Classical Gas. What is the car ?
    2. Scam ? Buyer beware ??
    3. Does it have a title and matching VIN plate ?
    4. Scares me........

  • It will be very difficult and costly for you to do that. If you have plenty of cash and do not mind the pain in the rear then go ahead.

  • I would also recommend finding one in the USA unless it is a super specific unique car. The cost of importing/exporting a vehicle greatly increases your cost. Not only is the shipping itself expensive but there are additional fees to get them in the country and on top of that there are a lot of customs rules that you have to follow. There are certain countries where transporting a "custom" car can be difficult. If that doesn't convince you enough after you purchase the car you are still looking at 1-2 months before you ever see it because it needs to be loaded in a container, inspected at customs, etc.

There are definitely cases where it is worth while if you don't have another option. But if you are looking for a street rod you have a ton to choose from here in the states and most likely will find one at a better price because there are so many on the market. Send me a message of what you are looking for and maybe I can point you in the right direction.

  • Can't you just find one in the USA?
Seems that would be a whole lot easier than importing one from the Netherlands.......
